This is very rare and very strange.

An eccentric mustard vessel defined by its looping, irregular form and pronounced negative space. Its uncommon silhouette has an emphatic avant-garde presence, with technically challenging apertures for practitioners willing to engage with a highly abstract vessel. Produced by the now-defunct kiln responsible for the iconic yacht and bison vases.

This piece had low production volumes - far below the volumes of bisons and yacht production. It is even rare for Japan Modern to find these in the wild. Wait a few years and we may have another. This kiln was known for their dark clay and they used a sanding disc to shave down the bases to ensure they sat flat on tables and they did not bother to try and cover up the sanding marks. We have seen enough of these vases over the yeas to recognise this and this model is no different.

Vintage pieces may show signs of age and prior use, including surface wear, glaze variation, firing irregularities, kiln marks, minor staining and other characteristics acquired over time. Please examine all photographs carefully, as they form part of the description.
