An unusual Shigaraki-ware vase with a distinctly postmodern character, far removed from the rustic wabi-sabi aesthetic usually associated with the region. The glossy turquoise globe is pierced by 17 circular and oval apertures of varying sizes, including a dominant central opening. This abundance makes the model an ikebanist’s indulgence: using only a select few openings while deliberately leaving the others empty is a confident display of restraint. The original labels on the base confirm its Shigaraki provenance.
