Cast Iron Tripod - New Old Stock

A genuinely scarce Japanese cast-iron suiban associated with the Nambu ironware tradition of Iwate Prefecture and commonly dated to the early 1970s. Variations occur in leg thickness, weight and surface finish, while some examples bear commemorative inscriptions for company anniversaries or store openings.

Frequently visible in period ikebana publications, its elongated basin and three-legged profile have become an insider icon of modernist ikebana. Senior Japanese practitioners are known to have retained them, despite the form being considered technically demanding to arrange in. More than half a century later, its severe simplicity, cultural resonance and scarcity continue to make it highly sought after.

This example is graded A and presents as New Old Stock, with no evidence of prior use. The original black finish remains exceptionally well preserved, with only minor surface friction from long-term storage. Please refer to the photographs for condition.
