Mustard Boat

A low boat-form vase with upturned pointed ends and a long central well. Layered horizontal ridges follow the curved body, while the mustard-yellow glaze pools and varies across the sculpted surface.

This model was part of a construded pipe series which a Tokoname based ikebana kiln made last century. This model is unique because it has 3 apertures and retains the original gold kiln sticker. A gold kiln sticker meant it was an A grade product. A silver kiln sticker denoted it has a minor kiln flaw but still had utility. This piece is worth owning. This kiln stopped production decades ago. Japan Modern is working on a book project and it will feature the story of this family ikebana kiln which produced many iconic models of last century.

Vintage pieces may show signs of age and prior use, including surface wear, glaze variation, firing irregularities, kiln marks, minor staining and other characteristics acquired over time. The photographs provide further detail on the individual character and condition of the piece.
