Beige Pedestal
A pedestal vase with a broad, subtly triangular basin, raised lower band and compact circular foot. Deep vertical striations and layered beige-grey glazing create a dry, weathered surface. Boldly modernist and brutalist, it embodies the old matte aesthetic prized by Californian modernist collectors and is among the most sought-after styles in modernist ikebana. If you inspect carefully, you will see the pedestal is slightly offset which adds to the strangeness of the vessel. At 2kg in weight, it is over two times the average weight of a typical 1kg vase.
