Turquoise Loop

A turquoise ikebana vase with a rounded upper bowl balanced above a sculptural looped support and bulbous lower body. Subtle horizontal banding and a softly mottled glaze articulate its stacked, architectural form. The well interior features crackled glass and retains the original kiln sticker. This kiln was a prolific manufacturer of ikebana vases in the middle of last century and many were exported to California by LA based Japanese American trading companies. They were distributed to various retail shops in California and some survivor models from this kiln are being discovered by modernists and ikebanists over the last 7 decades. This model with multiple apertures provides many options for the ikebana-minded.

Vintage pieces may show signs of age and prior use, including surface wear, glaze variation, firing irregularities, kiln marks, minor staining and other characteristics acquired over time. These qualities reflect the history and individual character of each piece.
