Orange Block

A tall and heavy rectangular ikebana vase with a rough orange-red body capped by a band of thick foaming yellow-white glaze. The blunt geometry and heavily textured surface give the piece a brutalist presence. The original kiln sticker remains attached to the upper front. This is a hand made studio pottery piece made by Kyo-yaki developed in Kyoto from the early Edo period and is distinguished by its diverse techniques, refined decoration and close relationship with tea and ikebana culture.

Vintage pieces may show signs of age and prior use, including surface wear, glaze variation, firing irregularities, kiln marks, minor staining and other characteristics acquired over time.
