Mustard Basin
An ochre ceramic vase with a low rounded body, broad upper opening and softly curved profile. Its compressed mass and reduced geometry give the piece a sculptural modernist character. There are two spliced holes piercing the finned appendages at the two narrow ends of the vase. This wax resist style of glaze and brutalist form was common back in the middle of last century. This was peak modernist form in the form of an ikebana vase.
Vintage pieces may show signs of age and prior use, including surface wear, glaze variation, firing irregularities, kiln marks, minor staining and other characteristics acquired over time.
