Rust Cleft  

Sculptural ikebana form, matte glazed ceramic, tall cylindrical body opening into a carved U-shaped channel with twin rising fins, asymmetrical vertical silhouette, iron-rich glaze with mottled brown rust and umber tones fading into a pale base, dry-textured surface with kiln-blushed transitions and soft edge darkening, organic, totemic presence. Made by a now-defunct ikebana kiln last century. Surviving models made by this kiln are becoming increasingly rare to find. Their forms were ranged from boldly modernist to outright avant-garde and strange.
