Green Biomorphic

Made by a Kyoto-based kiln, this artisan-stamped vase has a swollen lower body, elongated waist, upper aperture and broad asymmetrical display window. Its mottled green-black glaze accentuates the fluid, biomorphic form. Unlike pottery centres built around local clay deposits, Kyoto’s ceramic tradition developed through centuries of patronage from tea masters, the aristocracy, temples and later ikebana schools. As the birthplace of Ikenobo ikebana, the city fostered an unusually diverse range of vessel forms and glazing styles.

Vintage pieces may show signs of age and prior use, including surface wear, glaze variation, firing irregularities, kiln marks, minor staining and other characteristics acquired over time. Please examine all photographs carefully, as they form part of the description.
