Blue Caterpillar
Blue Caterpillar
Produced by a now-defunct Tokoname kiln, this post-modern vase is constructed from conjoined spherical segments forming a caterpillar-like arch, with two upper apertures. Its rounded geometry and graduated pale-yellow and blue glazing reflect a later shift away from the heavy, brutalist forms of the 1960s and 1970s towards lighter, more playful shapes, softer colours and an intentionally contemporary visual language. This model was reproduced by a Shigaraki based kiln decades after this original model. The mould was gifted to a kiln in Shigaraki and re-made in solid colours. This muted yellow and pale blue colourway is the distinctive original colour of an original Tokoname made model.
Vintage pieces may show signs of age and prior use, including surface wear, glaze variation, firing irregularities, kiln marks, minor staining and other characteristics acquired over time. Please examine all photographs carefully, as they form part of the description.
