Baby Blue Egg

A sculptural vintage ikebana vase from Kyoto, finished in a soft powder-blue glaze. The tall rounded body is elevated on two legs and encircled by bands of undulating relief, giving the restrained form a distinctly architectural, modernist character.

It originates from a Kyoto workshop with a history spanning three generations, specialising in the production of vessels for ikebana. The workshop combined traditional Kyoto ceramic techniques with progressively more contemporary forms developed for changing approaches to flower arrangement. The vase retains its original Japanese product leaflet identifying it as Kiyomizu ware, and the base is stamped with the maker’s mark.
