Large Deer Tray — Attributed to Tadahiro Baba
A large vintage Japanese cast iron deer rising from an oval wooden tray, attributed to Tadahiro Baba and corresponding to the deer design sold in Japan as part of his Room Friend series. A slender neck, sweeping antlers and an open, tapering body form a spare silhouette above the warm brown wood. Sculpture and a shallow tray for small belongings meet in one object.
Vintage pieces may show signs of age and prior use, including surface wear, finish and patina variation, casting irregularities, mould seams, minor rust or oxidation, staining and other characteristics acquired over time.
